Once upon a time there was a little bird named Piu Piu who loved to fly high and observe the sky. One sunny morning, he noticed those soft, white shapes floating above the clouds and wanted to find out where they came from. In a cheerful conversation, Piu Piu asked the Sun why the water in the rivers and seas disappeared to form clouds. The Sun explained that its heat warms the water, turning it into invisible, light vapor that rises towards the heights.
As the vapor rises, it encounters cooler layers of air and, as it cools, the vapor particles unite into tiny droplets of water. Thousands of these droplets join together and form clouds, reflecting the sunlight and looking like cotton wool in the sky.
Curious, Piu Piu flew among the clouds and noticed that some became dense and heavy, as if they were storing rain. In a magical instant, the droplets could no longer remain in the air and fell as gentle rain, wetting the leaves of the trees, the flowers and the rivers. The water then returned to the lakes and seas, ready to begin the cycle again.
Happy with this discovery, Piu Piu flapped his wings and sang with joy, knowing that the heat of the Sun, the water vapor and the cold of the atmosphere combine to create clouds and bring the rain that makes life flourish.
