Challenges faced by women entrepreneurs: An exploratory study in Jhang District, Punjab, Pakistan

Tahir et al. (2023) investigated the specific challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Jhang District, Punjab, Pakistan, focusing on their experiences when starting and establishing businesses. Using a qualitative approach, individual interviews were conducted with 11 women entrepreneurs from various sectors.The results revealed that cultural factors, such as lack of support and recognition, as well as social prejudices and resistance from family and community, are significant barriers to women’s business success.

The survey also pointed to financial difficulties, such as lack of initial capital and limited access to financing, as common obstacles. Women entrepreneurs have also faced challenges in customer acquisition and the marketplace, such as a lack of knowledge about their business and restrictions on interacting with male customers. In addition, the need to develop technical skills and balance domestic responsibilities with business demands have also been identified as important challenges.

In short, the study by Tahir et al. (2023) highlights the need to provide targeted support and interventions to overcome these barriers and promote the success of women-led businesses in Pakistan. By empowering women entrepreneurs and creating a supportive environment, the country can harness the full potential of female entrepreneurship for economic growth and development.
