Evaluation of the benefits of the Memoryn Life supplement on cognitive performance

Memory capacity is an essential function of the human brain, enabling the acquisition, storage and retrieval of information. This process is crucial for daily functioning and decision-making. With aging and modern lifestyles, memory can be compromised, leading to the search for interventions that can improve cognitive performance. In this context, the supplement Memoryn Life, from the company Life Natural®, has stood out for its promises to improve memory and cognitive function. This opinion article critically analyzes the components and effectiveness of this product based on a review of scientific literature.

Composition and Mechanism of Action

Memoryn Life is formulated with several natural components, including phosphatidylserine, fish oil, sunflower oil and soy lecithin. Each of these ingredients has properties that contribute to cognitive function.

Phosphatidylserine:  This phospholipid is found in large quantities in neural tissue and is crucial for neuronal communication and the integrity of cell membranes. Studies indicate that phosphatidylserine improves cognitive function and memory, especially in older individuals, by increasing the fluidity of cell membranes and levels of acetylcholine, a vital neurotransmitter (Nagata, 2020).

Fish Oil: Rich  in omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), fish oil is essential for the formation of the myelin sheath, which protects neurons and improves the transmission of nerve impulses. These fatty acids also have anti-inflammatory properties, which can benefit brain health and reduce triglyceride levels (Burhani, 2017; Gao, 2017).

Sunflower Oil: This oil is a rich source of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, as well as vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. The use of sunflower oil has been associated with improved skin hydration and protection, in addition to having anti-inflammatory properties (Summers, 2019).

Soy Lecithin: Soy lecithin is rich in choline, a nutrient vital for the synthesis of acetylcholine. Studies suggest that supplementing with soy lecithin may improve memory, cardiovascular health, and alleviate menopausal symptoms (Hirose, 2018).

Scientific Evidence of Efficacy

The literature review covered studies available in the PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar databases. The results demonstrate that Memoryn Life components have proven beneficial effects on cognitive function and brain health.

Phosphatidylserine:  Studies have shown that phosphatidylserine supplementation can improve memory and attention in older adults, slowing age-related cognitive decline (Kim, 2014). Additionally, phosphatidylserine may increase neuroplasticity by facilitating the formation of new synaptic connections (Glade, 2015).

Fish Oil: Fish  oil supplementation has been associated with improved working memory and executive function, as well as reduced symptoms of depression (Burhani, 2017).

Sunflower Oil: Although  its main use is topical, the fatty acids present in sunflower oil can contribute to brain health, through their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects (Summers, 2019).

Soy Lecithin:  The choline present in soy lecithin is essential for maintaining the integrity of cell membranes and for the production of neurotransmitters. Supplementation with soy lecithin has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and improve cognitive function (Moré, 2014).

Final Considerations

Based on the analysis of the composition and the available scientific evidence, Life Natural® Memoryn Life appears to be a promising supplement for improving memory and cognitive function. However, it is important to consider that the effectiveness of any supplement may vary between individuals, and use should be monitored by a healthcare professional.
