How to develop a curious personality in the child

The formation of a curious personality in childhood involves the interaction between the development of the nervous system and the consolidation of memories. During this phase, neuroplasticity, that is, the ability of the brain to modify itself, is intensified, allowing the formation of new engrams of memory, which are neurological representations of experiences and learnings (Abreu Rodrigues, 2021). However, not all memories and learning consolidated in the brain are beneficial for the construction of the child’s personality.

Excessive use of electronic devices, for example, can impair the development of important brain areas, such as the frontal lobe, and interfere with the formation of solid and lasting memories (Abreu Rodrigues, 2021). To stimulate curiosity, it is crucial that parents act as mediators in the child’s relationship with screens, encouraging activities that stimulate creativity and the search for knowledge, such as drawings, reading, games and sports practices.

Practical example: Instead of delivering a cell phone to the child when he is restless, parents can propose a drawing activity with paper and colored pencils, stimulating his creativity and imagination. This interaction not only takes the child away from the screens, but also contributes to the development of fine motor skills and strengthens the bond between parents and children.
