Exposure to mycotoxins, toxic substances produced by fungi, can trigger a range of health problems, from lung inflammation to immune suppression. The body’s response and detoxification capacity to these toxins varies from person to person.

- Night light and diabetes: A recent study published in The Lancet revealed a strong association between exposure to night light and increased risk of diabetes, regardless of genetic factors. One genetic variant that increases the risk of diabetes is a melatonin receptor gene, directly linking night light to the disease.
- Brain mitochondrial function and psychosocial experiences: A groundbreaking study analyzed mitochondrial function in post-mortem brain samples from individuals who recorded their psychosocial factors over the years. Results showed that people with positive experiences had better mitochondrial function, highlighting the importance of positivity for brain health.
- Sitting time, coffee and cardiovascular disease: New research has investigated the relationship between sitting time, coffee consumption and mortality from cardiovascular disease. The study concluded that the increase in mortality associated with a sedentary lifestyle was only observed in adults who did not consume coffee, suggesting a possible protective effect of the drink.
