Neuropsychological intervention in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): A case study

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological condition that affects children, adolescents, and adults, characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. This condition can cause significant impairments in the social, academic and occupational functioning of affected individuals.

The present case study investigated the efficacy of neuropsychological intervention in a patient with ADHD. The intervention consisted of 13 sessions, including psychotherapy, psychoeducation and cognitive training, with the aim of helping the patient to cope with their limitations and improve their performance.

The results of the study indicated that the neuropsychological intervention was effective in some aspects, such as reducing disorganization, forgetting tasks and objects, and improving patient attention. However, the patient still reported difficulties in maintaining attentional focus for long periods due to the presence of intrusive thoughts.

The study also highlighted the importance of parental participation in the therapeutic process, since family support and guidance are fundamental to the success of treatment. In addition, the study highlighted the need to individualize the treatment, considering the particularities of each patient and their family and social context.

In short, neuropsychological intervention has shown to be a promising approach for the treatment of ADHD, helping the patient to develop strategies to cope with their difficulties and improve their functioning in various areas of life. However, it is essential that the treatment is individualized and that parents are involved in the process in order to ensure better results. (RODRIGUES, 2020)
