Strategies for functional learning: Optimizing memory, decision making and attention

The digital era, with its technological advances, has brought with it numerous facilities for everyday life, but also challenges for cognitive development. Excessive use of the internet and electronic devices, when not directed towards creative or pedagogical purposes, can lead to a decrease in the ability to memorize and concentrate, limiting the learning potential (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

Given this scenario, it is essential to understand the brain mechanisms that drive intelligence, understanding and memory, and seek strategies to optimize learning. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and reorganize, can be stimulated through activities such as brain gymnastics and cognitive training, which promote interaction between neurons and strengthen neural connections (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

Memory, an essential process for learning, is divided into different categories, such as sensory, short-term, working and long-term memory. Each of these categories plays a specific role in the storage and retrieval of information, and understanding their mechanisms can help in developing more effective study strategies (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

To enhance learning, it is important to consider the predominant learning style of students. A survey of elementary school students revealed that the majority learn kinesthetically, that is, through practice and manipulation of objects. This data highlights the importance of using teaching resources that stimulate the senses and promote the active participation of students in the learning process (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

In addition, the article presents several techniques for memorizing information more quickly and efficiently, such as repetition, audio recording, writing, dividing notes, teaching another person, using mind maps and carrying out regular breaks during studying. These strategies, when applied consistently, can help consolidate memory and optimize learning (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

It is essential to highlight the importance of an appropriate learning environment for cognitive development. Physical space, time organization, social interaction and the use of varied teaching resources are elements that can positively influence the learning process (JAIME ZAMUDIO; LÓPEZ ÁLVAREZ, 2022).

In short, the article highlights the importance of understanding the brain mechanisms involved in learning and using effective strategies to optimize memory, decision-making and attention. By stimulating neuroplasticity, considering different learning styles and applying appropriate memorization techniques, it is possible to promote more functional and meaningful learning, preparing future generations for the challenges of the digital age.
