The Brilliant Brain: Threat or Promise?

Intelligence, a complex and multifaceted human capacity, has been an object of study and fascination throughout history. However, the perception of highly intelligent individuals as a potential threat raises intriguing questions about social dynamics and the nature of intelligence.

Abreu Rodrigues (2021) explores the relationship between intelligence and persuasion, highlighting the ability of intelligent individuals to articulate convincing arguments and influence the thinking of others. This ability, although valuable in different contexts, can generate ambivalent reactions from those around it. While some are attracted to intelligence and leadership abilities, others may feel intimidated or threatened, experiencing feelings of aversion or inadequacy.

The perceived threat can be attributed to a combination of factors, including ease of communication, extensive knowledge in different areas and speed in processing information, characteristics often associated with individuals with a high intelligence quotient (IQ). This combination can lead to a feeling of inferiority in others, triggering reactions such as anger and resentment.

However, it is important to emphasize that intelligence itself is not a threat. The way it is used and the way intelligent individuals relate to others play a crucial role in threat perception. Arrogance, arrogance and lack of empathy can exacerbate this perception, while humility, collaboration and mutual respect can promote an environment of learning and growth for everyone.
