The musical style of smart people

Abreu Rodrigues and Espirito Santo Wagner (2022) explored the relationship between intelligence and musical preference, interviewing people with high IQs about their musical tastes in different situations. The study revealed that most participants preferred rock and heavy metal, but opted for classical or instrumental music to focus on during their studies.

Although the research was limited to a small sample, its results corroborate other studies that suggest a correlation between intelligence and preference for instrumental music (Racevska & Tadinac, 2019). Instrumental music, especially classical music, has been linked to cognitive benefits such as improved concentration and focus, which may explain its popularity among people with high IQ.

However, it is important to note that musical preference is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, influenced by several factors besides intelligence, such as personal experiences, social and cultural context. Therefore, more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between intelligence and musical taste.
