Fear of the new, a primitive emotion rooted in human self-preservation, can be an obstacle to personal growth and development. However, intelligence, with its various facets, can play a crucial role in overcoming this fear and promoting adaptation to new situations.
People with a high Intelligence Quotient (IQ) often have enhanced cognitive skills, such as logical thinking, creativity, and analytical ability, that allow them to assess risks, anticipate scenarios, and make more effective decisions in the face of the unknown (Agrela Rodrigues, 2024). In addition, emotional intelligence (EQ), which involves the ability to recognize and manage emotions, and the adversity quotient (AQ), which measures resilience in the face of challenges, also contribute to overcoming fear of the new (Agrela Rodrigues, 2024).
Individuals with high EQ are more likely to identify and regulate their emotions, including fear, allowing them to face new situations with more confidence and serenity. Those with high AQ demonstrate greater ability to adapt and overcome obstacles, transforming fear into motivation for growth (Agrela Rodrigues, 2024).
However, it is important to emphasize that intelligence is not the only determining factor in overcoming the fear of the new. Past experiences, personality traits, and social context also play an important role. The development of skills such as critical thinking, creativity and emotional intelligence can be achieved through regular exercises such as reading, logical games and activities that stimulate decision making (Agrela Rodrigues, 2024).
In conclusion, fear of the new is a natural emotion, but it can be overcome through the development of cognitive and emotional skills. Intelligence, in its many forms, can be a powerful tool for tackling the unknown, allowing individuals to adapt, grow, and achieve their goals.
